Asylum for the Soul?

Save My Soul by King Uke (2013)
King Uke has a nice catchy tune out and and interesting post to boot.

Save My Soul (2013)

King Uke also mentions the artist Brian Collins in his post.
Brian is the guy who made the whirligig pictured above.
I wrote a post on whirligigs a few years back-
And check out Brian's amazing art as well-

He obviously has a thing for owls by the looks of it, which makes me think he has a touch of the shaman in him.
The above picture of Brian's reminds me of Kim Falconer, the lady of the sword.

Shades of R Crumb in his doodling work too, I feel.

He even has some amazing paper art -

There is definitely something about artists and shamans.
And on the subject of artists, I just can't help thinking how relevant this blast from the past below is at present as far as topics in the news goes lately.

" Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says asylum seekers who arrive by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees.
Mr Rudd has confirmed a deal that will see asylum seekers sent to Papua New Guinea for assessment, and if they are found to be refugees, they will be resettled there.
PNG's prime minister Peter O'Neill joined Mr Rudd in formally unveiling the plan in Brisbane this afternoon."

"Customs officers and West Australian police are on their way to intercept an asylum seeker boat off the Pilbara coast.
The ABC has been told the 20-metre vessel arrived at a floating oil platform 200 kilometres off Dampier in the early hours of the morning."

" Former US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden has applied for temporary asylum in Russia, three weeks after he arrived at a Moscow airport trying to avoid prosecution on espionage charges.
The 30-year-old is lingering in the transit zone of Sheremetyevo airport, an area between the runway and passport control, which Russia regards as neutral territory.
He flew to Russia from Hong Kong last month, seeking protection after he divulged details of US government intelligence programs.
Snowden's lawyer has confirmed he has filed an application for temporary asylum, but says he eventually wants to travel to Latin America.
"He reached the conclusion that he needs to write an application for temporary asylum (in Russia), and this procedure has just been done," said Anatoly Kucherena."

  1. Snowden has turned out to be a train wreck for U.S. But he has guts, that's for sure, and actually did the rest of us a favor. Today we had a hit from homeland security - they went to a post called the alien-hybrid breeding program.
